Just a couple of months until two-a-days! It's never to early to talk about high school football!
The Duneland should be strong again, lead by Lake Central. (When is the last time Lake Central was discussed as the pre-season favorite). It should be interesting with all of the coaching changes at Valpo, Portage and Crown Point.
In The Northwest Crossroads, it could be a toss up. Griffith will have it's first season in forever without Russ Radtke on the sideline but is always solid, Lowell is a contender, Andrean is always good, but lose some top-tier talent. Hobart is still in the middle of a rebuilding project, Munster should be solid offensively again, Highland hopes to turn things around. It could be anyone's conference to win.
In the Greater Southshore and the Great Lakes conferences the conversation starts and ends with Wheeler and Morton respectivly.

Hobart is always has the potential of a sleeping giant. There are always the shadows of the greatness that was. I think Coach Turley and his staff are the right guys for the job, and will turn it around. This may be the season to do it.

The DAC is going to be a three horse race between Lake Central, Merrillville and Crown Point.
Northwest Crossroads I'll go with Andrean.
Greater Southshore conference I like Wheeler. Great Lakes Morton.

Welcome Tommy! I think you are right about the DAC, although it seems like LC is the favorite. Crown Point was young (and good) last year. This class we have been hearing som much about is starting to come of age. Merrillville always seems to be good.
How do you think the coaching changes will effect the DAC race?

Darkhorse Teams DAC Chesterton and Valpo GSSC RF and North Newton NWCC Griffith- if the new coach can get more numbers out. Morton is the team in Hammond. Indep. - EC Central is a talented team that may only lose 1 or 2 games in the Regular Season, Darkhorse in 4A.

In the DAC Lake Central is the team to beat..they have the most dynamic player in the conference, David Yancey..and they have a solid defense to back them up
In the NCC I say Griffith is the favorite..Austin Brown is the best athlete in the conference and are probably not going to shake up the offense too much with Pickett at the helm..Team to look out for that might improve alot is KV
GSSC is Wheeler until proven otherwise..they have never lost a conference game..they are starting to resemble Penn when it comes to conference dominance..I think Penn won over 150 conference games in a row before finally getting knocked off by Mishawaka a few years ago
Morton is still the king of Hammond, but I think the Wildcats are becoming formidable again thanks to Eric Schreiber
Team with the best chance of a deep playoff run is Lake Central...5A North is weak and I could see David Yancey putting the team on his back, kind of like Tre Roberson did with Lawrence Central 2 years ago en route to making the state finals

Why does everybody say Lake Central? They had one good year. What about Merrillville. Munster is better than Griffith. Hammond is the best school in Hammond.

Munster needs to stop running the Gary Eldridge toss play and get out of the 80's and diversify the offense. I saw them have negative yardage in a game against Lowell, in a quarter at Lowell, that definately was forgettable recently. Hammond is not better than Morton and LC has D1 Talent in at least 2 positions. Merrillville with Collins and Ryan Neal could be interesting, believe it or not another Neal is coming up in Adam Neal too, who is talented in football also.

apollo is right. Munster always seems to show promise, but they rarley live up to it. It's been awhile since they have been able to be considered a serious contender. They will be solid as always, but probably don't have much of a chance to win the NWC. I am not really sure who to pick....like I said before a toss up...Griffith maybe, Andrean maybe, Lowell possibly, I've been hearing good things about Munster and Hobart. It seems like everyone but Highland has a shot.
I am not sure how anyone could say that Morton is not the class of Hammond. Schreiber is a very good coach and has things going in the right direction for the Wildcats, but they are not up to Morton yet.
The Duneland right now does rest with Lake Central. Great talent and coaching propel them to the top. I like the new hires of the coaches in the conference, but it will be hard to say where they will be right off. Crown Point has the most talent returning of the three school (Portage, Valpo and CP) who changed coaches in the off season. Merrillvillwe will be solid as always and should contend. I don't disagree with that at all.

Lake Central is a flash in the pan. You will see. No one really knows how good Hammond is. Keep hatin.

Julio, I don;t think that anyone is saying Hammond High isn't good, just that they are not as good as Morton. I think until proven otherwise, the Governors are the best team in Hammond and one of the best in 4A in the area.

I think Hammond has a little ways to go before they can catch Morton..they definitely have the program heading in the right direction and probably have the right coach in place as well

Nobody will listen about Hammond. They will be better this year and they only lost three games last year. The teams that they lost to are not as good this year. They beat some good teams like East Chicago.

Julio, I don't think anyone disagrees that Hammond will be good this year, and yes they beat some pretty good teams. The three games they lost were to good teams: Griffith, Lowell, and Morton. Hammond might very well become the best team in Hammond in the future, and I agree that they are headed in the right direction. To say Hammond is better than Morton, however, is a little premature. I know that you will be all over this board though if Hammond beats Morton this year.
