This conversation is crazy..Portage is winning maybe 4 or 5 games at the most this season..Roosevelt (if they even have a team), Michigan City, LaPorte, and maybe Chesterton..they tend to play Chesterton pretty tough and might have a shot there..other than those games, I just don't see it
They have zero quarterback experience..a very small offensive and defensive line..I'll grant that Rashaan Coleman is one of the 5 best playmakers in the area..but Portage has a ways to go before they can get back to the level they were a few years ago before they hired 2 terrible head coaches..I agree that Wally is a much better coach than the last 2 they hired..I just don't see a drastic turnaround happening in one year
And the DAC is nowhere near the best conference in the state...the MIC and HHC are by far the best in Indiana right now

They are getting that experience now. Coach Mac will have them ready. How much experience did Lake Central have last year? Crown Point's "experienced" players were bad and they got better when their younger players were put in. Why is Portage different? You just don't know.

You kind of have a point about Crown Point. They did get better when they went younger. That wasn't really true with Lake Central though. They got better as they got more experianced. I think Portage is a good couple of years away from being really good. For now, it's the other teams we have been talking about. Who knows, maybe you will prove all of us wrong.

As Cubs fans used to say Next Year is Here for Portage. They will win the DAC championship this year. Coach Mac and the Tribe on the Attack!

Portage? Hammond? Is this a serious conversation? Props to you indianbacker on your backing your Indians, but Crown Point is the team to beat this year. The king of the Duneland will be between us Lake Central this year. You guys are going to be the same as you were, we will be better with another year of player development, Lake Central will be as good, Merrillville will be about the same, and everyone else will be as good or worse. The battle is Crown Point and Lake Central. Portage isn't even a contender, sorry.

I agree with you props, to indian backer for backing the tribe, however LC is the favorite in the DAC with Yancey and Robinson, CP does not have a three year starter at QB in Joe Hopman anymore and yes Jake Jatis led them to the regional, but really Jake Jatis is an unproven thrower or will they rely on the running of Tristen Peterson, Jacob Johnson, Troy Grady, or Luke Polus in the backfield, the defense will be strong again at CP with two of the areas best juniors in Connor Andras and Brendan Mckinnion, and top notch receivers in Zach Plesac and Braxton Rice. Backup QB's are young in Soph Jon Dietrich, Brian LaTulip and an incoming Freshman Artie Equihua and I think Austin Solis transferred. don't count out Chesterton and Merrillville has Collins the fastest RB in the area and Ryan Neal in the Defensive Secondary and of course a Raspopovich back, and Valpo is always a factor.

We will miss Hopman, but I have heard around town that Jake is doing everything to put himself at the same level as the QB from Merrillville. The Duneland is hard for football. All of the teams you mentioned apollo are going to be good. I just think that with another year behind them, the Bulldogs are going to be in the same conversation with Lake Central and we will be the teams that everyone else will need to look out for.

I don't know what else there is to say. Lake Central is good, but there are only one Indians in the DAC!

I agree with JT Portage is a year away and may win 4 games or 5, if Roosevelt is going to have a team that is still in doubt in reality.

You will see. I heard some news about the Portage linemen today that will make you all recognize! They are stronger and faster, and have been working really hard. They will be great!

Once again I predict that Portage will do well, but in 2013. As you have stated the era since Buzea has had a few issues and it will take some time with a new coach, ad, etc. before we can judge also.
