From the IHSAA: The Committee also voted in favor of a two-year tournament success factor in each team sport (baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball volleyball), an accumulation of points by which any school would move up one class based on tournament series performance during that time.
What do you think of how the changes will effect basketball?

On the Tradition factor: It's still a bad idea. It's part of an overwhelming problem with America. Everything has to be fair. Well life isn't fair. It's no wonder with everything being so watered down that we are barley in the top 25 in math and science... scores. It is no wonder that everything is less productive that it was, because every thing has to be "fair" What is that teaching kids? You are great, you work hard, you win championships, and, oh by the way, we are going to punish you for that by making you play bigger schools. People think this will corral privates and parochial schools, but look at really successful public schools. Maybe you have a great group of kids who is really talented. They all graduate and because they were good the kids who were underclassmen maybe were not as good. Now THOSE KIDS have to play the tougher competition. This will come back to bite them watch.
Too many classes is already a problem with fan interest. What happens when these teams keep moving up and 4A is huge?

You might be right Rich, fans seem to want fewer classes and this could water down the lower classes a little bit. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I'm not sure how this will affect basketball..on the boys side, there is some parody in 1A..2A has obviously been the Park Tudor invitational the last couple of years..not sure if they will continue the dominance without Yogi..3A there is parody along with 4A
On the girls side though, the lower classes have all been dominated by Fort Wayne parochials..Canterbury, Luers, and Concordia have dominated 1A-3A for the last several years..things could really shake up on the girls side if this continues

JT and all, consider this from my upcoming editorial in MAB Monthly: In 07-08 & in 08-09 Oak Hill played Heritage Christian for the 2A girls basketball title. Heritage Christian won both matchups, would have accumulated 8 points, and would have moved to 3A. Good news for Oak Hill right? Wrong. Having won 2 semi-states in a row Oak Hill would also have moved up to 3A. In 09-10 they would have played in the 3A tournament with a team, that while a sectional champion, fell in the regional to Luers. Again, some great players graduated and although they were a great team, they likely would have not been able to compete in 3A.

This will make all of the cheaters like Andrean, Hammond Noll and Bowman take notice. They will not be able to beat down the small schools anymore.

Do you really believe that Public Schools don't take players from each other too?

Hard to say for sure..did a little research..both Oak Hill and Fort Wayne Concordia (3A Champion in 2010) lost to Luers..Concordia actually lost to both Luers and Canterbury that year I get your argument..just playing a little devils advocate here..Concordia and Elmhurst both lost to Canterbury the years they won state I'm sure there will be a few teams that have those "elite" classes of players who come along and have an outstanding run for a couple of years and then graduate..but the vast majority of the teams that are dominating are parochials..obviously, the main reason this rule was made was to try and level the playing field Class basketball isn't going away..I think they are trying to make any little change possible to bring more interest to the game..seeding the sectionals would have created some buzz

That doesn't matter though. Who cares what Canterbury did. Success breeds success. That is true in private/parochial schools and in public schools a like.. Public schools are dominant at time too, but making them move up a class does not help anyone. Yes, someone may win a state championship, but so what? Consider this...on the girls side since 2000, public schools have won more state championships than parocial schools and most parochial school have never won a state championship in any sport. ever.
