Coach Paterson has signed six athletes to the Calumet College cross country and track teams: Whiting's Danielle Weems and Sayra Jimenez-Segovia, Edison's Joe Dickerson and Taylor Sykes, Andrea DeGard of Calumet, and Samantha Aguilar of Griffith. The jewel of the class seems to be DeGard who made it to the semi-state.
Some members of the class had not competed in track. For example, the Whiting athletes did not have a track team available, and Sykes played football and ran track, but not cross country. Coach Paterson said on our show that he could make a track athlete out of anyone, and these kids are very athletic...it looks like he is going to do just that!

I am sure Coach Paterson knows what he is doing there Julio Good coaches can turn good athletes into just about anything. The nice part is that it's not like these kids haven't run before. They were athletes, just not all in track or cross country. Conditioning and training will help.

Yeah, it's great that these kids get a chance to compete at the college level.
