Indiana high school basketball got some attention, the wrong kind of attention, after Bloomington South beat Arlington 107-2 on Monday. There are a lot of people saying that South lacked sportsmanship. Others, including Arlington's coach, are saying that it is just a part of the game. Thoughts?

I don't know all of the details of the game, like box score and how the game was played out..looking at Arlington's recent history, they were awful last year but looks like they were actually pretty decent in the years before that..and appears as though they were a 4A school before recently becoming 3A
So they are a 3A school, which means they have to at least have several hundred students..when sectionals roll around this school will have to compete against 3A competition, or not compete at all..it's not like they are going to get a "break" because they are bad and be put into a 1A sectional
Here is where I stand..Arlington agreed to this game..nobody put a gun to their head and forced them to play BS..it was their choice and they went with it..as a 3A school, if you can't be competitive and score more than 2 points in a game then that is your fault..doesn't matter if the other team scored 60 points or 150 points..fact is they got their butts handed to them and THEY have to live with it
You play the game out..people are expecting Bloomington South to play stall ball and not take wide open layups..name ANY other time you would tell your own team to not take a wide open layup if it is there..Arlington played an aggressive 2-3 zone defense according to the article..maybe after giving up the first 60 points they could have CHANGED up the game plan?? Maybe Coach Jackson just isn't a very good coach..and I'd be willing to bet that if Bloomington South really was trying to run up the score, they could have scored a heck of alot more than 107 because it's pretty easy to score points in bunches when you run a full court press against an inferior team..they probably ran their normal offense and exposed alot of holes in that trapping defense for many easy baskets..not their fault that Arlington wanted to play that way
The national media grabbed hold of this and made it a story..blowouts happen every night..if Arlington didn't want to get "embarrassed" then either forfeit or don't schedule the game at all..don't blame Bloomington South for playing the game..Arlington is a bad team and the onus will be on THEM to get better, not the opponent
