Basketball Stars from the Past

Who is your favorite former region hoops star? So many on the boys and girls side to choose from.

When I was a boy I liked to watch Jamie Sloas and Jim Pope from Hobart.

I liked Hummel alot when he was at Valpo. Sad to see how his career has been plagued with injuries..

Watching Thad Garner and his teammates in the 70s got me to attend Noll for basketball, but I loved Region basketball, with all the talented Gary teams (Emerson with Wallace Bryant, Roosevelt, etc), and the 2 EC Teams, and watching the football players from Merrillville play basketball.

My mom used to work at the Hammond Civic Center and I would also go watch that sectional every year and sit in those stands for entire days - really miss it. Loved watching Ispas from Noll wearing those classic glasses of his.

When I was a boy I liked Rodney Dennis & Antwan Stallworth . When I was in high school it was my boys Dorien Nash, Mike Haywood and Marc Weems. After I was out there was Bob Delano, Keith Herron, Jermaine Boyette, Batiste Haywood, and David Ashley. A lot of good memories watching those boys hoop.
