and now for the GSSC.....
My picks: River Forest: This could finally be the year for the Ingots Wheeler: They lose some talent, new coach gives them their first GSSC loss this year. Whiting: Jeff Cain's squad is always ready to play North Newton: The Spartans are moving in the right direction Noll: Proof that being a parochial school does not guarantee success. Expect another 3-4 win season Edison: Lots of turmoil in the offseason and loss of some key players = long season for the Eagles Calumet:I wish a better fate for the Warriors, but someone has to be in last place.

I still think it's Wheeler's conference, at least for this year..still a pretty big gap between them and everyone else..I have no idea what they will have for a quarterback this year, but still beat the Ingots by 3 TD's without one last year..River Forest may give them a game, but they will still blow away everyone else in that conference Maybe Noll football should do what the basketball team does, get elite players from out of state to come play

Everyone under estimating River Forest. They were 7-4 last season and have everyone back.

If they beat Wheeler I'll be a believer..might have to bet a Ponderosa dinner buffet on this one!

Wheeler is not a dominant as they have been. RF is getting much better. Wheeler will not run the table this year. First GSSC loss is coming this year. My prediction is that RF will get the win, but it could be Whiting too. I think their was more to Klimczak leaving then just wanting to be an AD. Coaches know when it is time to walk away. Think it's a coincidence that Don Howell retired when he did?

I don't think anyone on the outside really knows what Wheeler will be like until the second game of the season..Wheeler has had to replace several key pieces in other seasons and were still successful..the KV game will be tough this year because the Kougars bring back most of their starters from last year and Wheeler has alot of questions to be answered..if they can still manage to win that game then I say they are almost a lock to run the table
The Ingots still have alot to prove..they still lost to 2 conference opponents last season..they weren't blowing the doors off everyone..had a couple of close games and lost to North Newton in the sectional semi-final..looking at their schedule for this season, they should definitely be 4-0 going into that Wheeler game..so I do expect that there will be a packed house for that

True JT, I guess no one ever really does know. At some point the dominance will end though. It happened to Hobart. It happened to Penn. I think this is the year that it happens at Wheeler. I'm not saying that they won't be good. I'm just saying that I don't think they will run the table either. I would expect them to win both non conference games against Gary Lighthouse and Eau Claire to start the season. they should beat Edison, and Calument handily. North Newton could be a tough game, but that puts them 5-0 when they play Wheeler. The Wheeler game could go either way. They should beat Noll, and the Whiting game could be hard on the road. I am not saying that River Forest is the best team in the area, or even that this is the best RF team ever. Just that this could be their year and I don;t think Wheeler will be nearly as good.

I agree with Julio, Whiting is a team that I am hearing a lot about. The Oilers could be tough this year along with RF and Wheeler. This could really be the 1st year when it could be a race in the GSSC. Whiting now has open enrollment where they have been taking Robertsdale Zip Code Students this has helped them and hurt Clark and Noll.

This is not a strong conference. I do not want to be mean, but it is true. Very true. There is not many players that could play with bigger schools here.

For a point of discussion Highland had it handed to them by Wheeler and Whiting in the last decade and KV gets drilled by Wheeler each year, Hobart lost a JH game to RF 28-0, with these same kids who are Juniors and Seniors, for what it's worth Noll won a state championship in Football how many others in the Region can say that.

That is the best you have? Who is Highland and KV? They are not good either. How many years has it been since Bishop Noll won? This is a bad conference with only one good team.

Are Highland and KV bigger schools or not?

Bigger isn't always better. The whole conference had one good team Wheeler, who beat everyone else. They could not beat DAC teams. They could beat Highland and KV because they are bad, but the other teams probably couldn't beat those teams.
