I attended a few games of the shootout tonight..I didn't video tape anything because some of the matchups changed, but thought I'd share what I saw
Merrillville played Hanover..I missed the first 5 minutes but watched the rest..While I was impressed with how Blayr Poston played, the rest of the team needs alot of work..nobody else really stepped up at all and they struggled with Merrillville's speed..the Pirates were a bit sluggish in the first half but then picked up their play for most of the second..the full court press really burned Hanover and they were able to get some easy buckets from that..Victoria Gaines was still sidelined with her injury, but there were a few players that stepped up in the game..Merrillville won 47-27
EC Central played Hammond Morton..I was curious about the Cardinals so I watched most of this game..needless to say, it was not very competitive..EC pressured the ball for much of the first half and Morton struggled to even get the ball past half court..while Adrianna Moore has moved on from the program, a few of their other forwards stepped up and dominated the paint..they looked pretty decent, but again, it's hard to say for sure because they were playing an overmatched opponent..I'll probably check them out again next week against some better competition and then have a better report
The last game I watched was Andrean vs Wheeler..and to be honest, I only saw maybe the last 10 minutes because the EC/Morton game was playing on another court..but to my surprise it was Andrean who dominated Wheeler in this one..Andrean hired former Culver coach, Tony Scheub after having a terrible season last year..I don't think that Wheeler had it's full compliment of players for this contest but nevertheless, I have to say Andrean looked 10 times better than they were all of last season..Scheub can really coach..I should know..he turned an awful Culver program into a state contender in just one season..I'll have to watch Andrean a little bit more to see how much progress they are making, but they could be a team to look out for in the upcoming season
