The RailCats have announced the retirement of infielder Rico Washington and released him from his contract. Washington was batting .301 in 22 games with a home run and was second on the team with 17 RBI.
A former Major Leaguer with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008, Washington was in his 15th professional season. He played his final game last Saturday, when he suffered a hand injury after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first inning in the RailCats home game against Newark.
