Soler is supposed to be a power hitting prospect who have develop into the best power-hitting outfielder at Wrigley since Sammy Sosa patrolled right field, but the price tag seems a little much. Not that I care how much the Cubs spend on players, other than that I would like see money open for other players to be added to the fold.
The deal though is almost twice what the Rangers gave fellow Cuban expatriate Leonys Martin who is much more of a proven commodity. Martin played at the highest level in Cuba and was a star there, while Soler was essentially a minor leaguer. That is not entirely bad mind you. It just seems that by comparison the Rangers got a better deal.
Despite that, I like that the Cubs are making some deals for the future and are finally putting some money behind "the plan"
