Sounds like it was close. Honestly, I root for the US in every way except for in men's basketball. The full compliment of NBA players make the games far less interesting. Also, the attitudes of the players are what turned me off from the NBA anyway, so to see those guys playing on one team and the nasty comments they made toward each other had me hoping they would lose. I would have been fine with the US winning 103 medals instead of 104 or at very least seeing the count stay the same and watch this group of arrogant players get bronze like they did in Athens.

How can you believe that? The USA Team is the very best. You want them to lose because they win? Go team USA!

I love this country, and no one says that teams that are not as good should just get better as much as I do. I do think that if you are not as good as the next guy, the next team, you should practice harder and just get better.
That said, that is not why I have a problem with the US men's team. It starts with the NBA in general. I have not been a true NBA fan for a long time. I get tired of the attitudes, the poor 1 on five play almost every time down the floor. The selfish play and arrogance of the superstars. I just have no time for it anymore. That's not to say that it does not happen in every sport. Their is arrogance everywhere, but if you don;t work with teammates in the NFL you do not last long, in MLB you are exposed easily. The NBA used to be my favorite league and it continues to go down hill.
So how does that connect to the Olympics? Not a single player on the US team that does not play in the NBA. Not an NBA fan = not a fan of the men's national team either.
Keep in mind, that I have gone on record as saying that the US women's team is one that I DO root for and they blow teams out by more than the men. Why? They still play like 1 team rather than 5 players. The attitudes and animosity toward each other is not there.
I really hope that they go for a U23 format like in soccer. It would make the game more interesting (hopefully).

Rich, you are right about the NBA..most of the teams I just don't care to watch..I do like watching teams like San Antonio and Boston because they DO have a team concept..I like watching good team basketball, most of that is a lost art now..college basketball is starting to become alot like the pros now, which is sad..at least in the high school game, you still see really good team play and sharing of the basketball
