The Wolves could have a regular season like Merrillville, and it could be the best shot the region has had in a long while.

Maybe. They are talented. Tica Murphy is one of the best players in the state. They have almost everyone back. Of course, the double round robin is also back and that can kill Duneland teams who are not used to playing top tier competition from throughout the stat. It's going away, just not soon enough.

I'm really proud of the Michigan City girls basketball team. I fully expect them to have a fantastic season in 2012-2013. Last season they didn't have a single solitary senior and ended up winning sectional 2 in which they knocked off previously unbeaten (21-0) Merrillville in the sectional semifinal. Keep in mind that the Pirates beat the Wolves in their two previous meetings. They ended up onl falling to #1 ranked Penn 59-55 in the morning game of the Valpo regional but they really played their hearts out, just got into too much foul trouble and was unable to advance.
Head coach Mike Megyese is going to be loaded with talent as he returns six sensational seniors who started playing varsity as freshmen this season in Keshyana Cooper Cooper, Tica Murphy, Jameka Collins, Aubria Clifton (who is coming back from injury), Dee Evans and Aubria Smith in addition to sophomore sensation Mihael Miller. I'm really excited about next girls basketball season. I do feel that this is they year the Wolves will make a deep run in the tournament. GO CITY!!!

Toomy,
Having Clifton back is HUGE for MC. They, as you said, have their entire core back and having her back into the mix makes them just that much more dangerous. I hope they make a deep run, I really do. Unfortunately, there is some great girl basketball down south in 4A.

I just got done watching Michigan City last night play in a 4 team shootout at Northridge..they did not play very well at all..The team was missing a few players but had most of the regulars..I think lack of maturity and focus will be a big problem for this team down the road..most of the players acted like they didn't care and were just kinda out there
I agree that they will be the best team in the region..if they are focused, they do have a shot of running the table in the DAC..but that regional will be brutal..I expect Penn to win their sectional again and probably either Warsaw or Northridge to win the other sectional out east..It's not impossible, but I would be really surprised if the Wolves can make it past regionals..depends if "good" City shows up or not

Here are some highlights of their game against Northridge..it's only summer basketball but City just seemed to not have any sense of urgency at all youtu.be/Lou6ubKf_ZE

JT, that does look bad. I think it is hard for any Duneland team to win a state championship. There are a lot fo strong teams up North, like, as you mentioned, Penn among others. I think the Michigan City has the best shot in the area, I am afriad that they will do what Merrillville did; undefeated season and then fall to one of these teams who gets to play a more wide open schedule.

I give them credit for at least having the guts to go out and play the best competition..they are taking their lumps right now but will be better for it..I think Penn is the best team in northern Indiana for girls basketball right now..also, Hamilton Southeastern will be another team to watch out for..they have Taya Reimer who just committed to Notre Dame..4A is loaded with some really good teams this year

Tommy! That is funny (also true). JT, you are right they need to play great competition in the summer, since they are limited in their schedule in the winter, still they should be solid in the in the Duneland, the sectional, and should be considered maybe a top 5 or higher team up north.

A team that might be a darkhorse in the DAC this year might be LaPorte..I have seen them play a few times the last couple of weeks and they are pretty decent..they played Northwood and Fort Wayne South Side at a tournament in Garrett and held their own pretty well..I recorded their game against Northwood and will post it within the next few days
