Awaiting a Region Team at the Semi State will be either # 1 Penn with All World Soph Mid fielder Brooke Van Dyke, HSE, or possibly Carroll. But at the Sectional Level look for Highland[who just beat Lake Central 3-0] to get one of the Regional spots over a young LC team. LC has some very talented young players in Soph Players: Caroline Puch, Stephanie Dijak, Freshman Brenna Thompson, and one of the most athletic players in the region in Soph Anika Berg.
Crown Point has 5 shut outs this year at 8-4-2, but KV beat them recently 3-1 with a late goal by Reagan Walthier, who had a hat trick. However CP really dominated this game in Wheatfield for the most part, led by Senior Delaney Bennich and Soph Emmie Mcconnell. Junior Hannah Abdullah is very crafty with the ball as well as Speedy Junior All State Track Star Payton Grady and Soph Player Abby Kelliher. CP is bolstered by a defense that has only given up over 2 goals only once in 14 games. They are led by a strong midfielder in Soph Olivia Small and Soph Defender Leah Srhufka, to go along with several Players in the Midfield with Junior Emily Bogordos, Soph Emily Wielgus, and Senior Kelly Covaciu, Defenders: Soph Libby Rockovits, Soph Sela Ozemir, and Senior Sam Syndrowski to go along with Soph Goalie Maddie Johnson in the Goal and Junior Grace Lynch. CP has victories over Valpo and SBSJ and only lost to state powers HSE and Brebeuf 2-0. Lowell has one of the ISL Golden Boot winners from in Soph Savannah Bevineau and they played CP to a 3-2 game at CP earlier this year and they match up with KV well. I look for CP to rebound off of last year's loss to KV, this year's upset, and beat an upstart Lowell club in the final. Lowell will play KV in game 2 while CP Plays Merrillville.
Valpo will again defeat there rival Chesterton in the sectional led by Kelly Landry,Olivia Shaw, Sammie Constantine, Carli Milroy, and Janci Courtenay. Portage has a very talented player in Freshman Yessie Tinoco who would start for any team in the region on defense. I think the veteran leadership and consistent rotation will pull Valpo through over Chesterton, while Munster led by Addie Adinello [who has been averaging 2-3 goals every game - and she may be the best scorer in the region]will cruise to the Regional. Regional Match ups will be Highland vs CP and Valpo vs Munster at Valpo. These are my picks. Will see how it goes next week in the Sectional Play. Look for KV, Lowell, Chesterton, Lake Central, and Griffith to be Darkhorses in there Sectionals. Look for Andrean, Argos, and Wheeler to shine in 1A.
