From the IHSAA: The Committee also voted in favor of a two-year tournament success factor in each team sport (baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball volleyball), an accumulation of points by which any school would move up one class based on tournament series performance during that time.

On the Tradition factor: It's still a bad idea. It's part of an overwhelming problem with America. Everything has to be fair. Well life isn't fair. It's no wonder with everything being so watered down that we are barley in the top 25 in math and science... scores. It is no wonder that everything is less productive that it was, because every thing has to be "fair" What is that teaching kids? You are great, you work hard, you win championships, and, oh by the way, we are going to punish you for that by making you play bigger schools. People think this will corral privates and parochial schools, but look at really successful public schools. Maybe you have a great group of kids who is really talented. They all graduate and because they were good the kids who were underclassmen maybe were not as good. Now THOSE KIDS have to play the tougher competition. This will come back to bite them watch.

Remember, many Public schools take tuition kids too. You would be surprised by a list of legendary region athletes that did not live in there Public school of choice. For instance on one street in the 4 seasons, had three division 1 athletes, living right next to each other- one at Valpo, one at CP, and one at Andrean. Many interesting basketball players who lived no where near there school they starred in. Miller Beach residents on legendary football teams and the song goes on and on. And this song is just as much played in Indy, Michiana, and around the state.

Good point apollo, there is open enrollment everywhere. Andrean, Bishop Noll, etc are not cheating. There are countless examples of kids who have played at other schools. Honestly, as a parent, I feel like it should be my choice where my kid goes to school anyway, but that it just me.
The reality is that this is not going to help anyone. Sure some underacheivers get a chance to "achieve" I guess, but does it really help? I get tired of all of this fairness garbage. Sports is about competition, there are winners and losers. Get over it.
They can deny it all they want, but this move was made for the private/parochial schools and the perceived "problem". This year though, in baseball the parochial schools were 1-3 in state championship games this year with only LCC winning the title. Brebeuf, Roncalli and Mater Dei all lost. In softball it was 2-2, but that's only because in 1A both teams were in that category.
Again, get over it people! This is going to ruin sports. The tournaments are already watered down enough. And what about when LCC moves up and wins in 2A, then 3A....all of those "bottom tier" 2A and 3A schools will be crying that it is unfair. You watch, it's coming.

Andrean and the other privates do cheat. Tell me one player that went to a public school that didn't live in the city of the school.

They don't cheat indianbacker. The list is very long of public school kids who lived in other districts. When I was at Hobart, we had several kids who lived in other places. They and the school were not doing anything wrong, the kids parents paid tuition for them to go to Hobart. It has happened at Portage too with at least one very high profile player that I know of. Again, he did nothing wrong and neither did the school, but Portage took tuition students at that time. Then there are the open enrollment districts like Gary and Hammond where kids can go to any school that they want.

For the doubters, let's start the all time best player in my opinion, in Whiting History lived in Hammond and starred at Whiting . I heard that 5 of the 9 starters on Whiting's Baseball this year live in Clark's District, perfectly legal, because Whiting allows it. Indian Backer do you really believe all the star Brickies of there era lived in Hobart and not some in Miller, when a Hobart Alumnus is telling you different, that two 5A Schools actually had lots of tuition kids too, really over the years and it is all allowable too, it is not all about parochials, charters have no borders, just ask schools who have lost kids to them in basketball.

It's true. We have kids that have moved in because of our great fields, weight room and that kind of thing at Crown Point. Parents are just doing what they think is best for their children.

They do cheat and you haven't told me about a Portage player. Everyone who plays for Portage lives in Portage, South Haven, or Ogden Dunes. I don't know about Hobart, but if public schools cheat like the recruiting Catholics they get caught and are punished.

It is perfectly legal to take Tuition Students at a Public School if that school district has a policy. The point is that Public Schools have been doing this for years or have turned there back on residency issues in my view. Do you really believe none of the kids at any school, fudge a residency or guardianship so they can attend a school they want to play at.

indianbacker, I don't think that Rich wants to call out an individual student-athlete, but it does happen. Most of us probably went to high school with someone who didn't live in our district. As apollo said, it is perfectly fine and legal to do if the district allows tuition students. It is getting to the point where kids will be able to go to any school that they want and the money will follow them.
